Preserve the Historic Structure and Values of Musaeus College Colombo 07

The Issue

As  concerned parents, We are witnessing a disheartening transformation in our beloved institution, the oldest Buddhist ladies college in Colombo Musaeus College - Colombo 07.

The new administration ( Board of trustees and Management) is implementing changes that are not only altering the physical structure of this historic school but also undermining its foundational values based on Buddhism and our rich culture.

The school's uniform is being changed from frock to a Tshirt and skirt, fees are being doubled without considering economical crisis prevailing in the country, and most worryingly, there seems to be a de-prioritization of Buddhism and cultural values. This shift towards commercialization threatens to destroy centuries-old traditions that have given this institution its esteemed reputation.

Musaeus College was founded with nationalistic ideals rooted in Buddhism. It was never meant to be a mixed-gender institution or one driven by profit motives. The founders envisioned it as an educational beacon preserving and promoting our cultural heritage.

This historic college has been an integral part of our community for generations. Its preservation is not just about maintaining an old structure; it's about safeguarding the values we hold dear as Buddhists and Sri Lankans.

We must ensure that future generations can continue to learn within these hallowed halls under the guiding principles set forth by its founders. We call upon all stakeholders - parents, alumni, teachers - to join us in urging the board of management and trustees to reconsider their decisions which threaten both tradition and education quality at this venerable institution.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving tradition while ensuring high-quality education for our daughters at Sri Lanka's renowned Buddhist ladies college.
