Preserve the Historic Black Beverly Hills Billboard

Preserve the Historic Black Beverly Hills Billboard
The Issue
We are deeply saddened by the recent decision to remove our beloved billboard, which pays homage to the history of View Park-Windsor Hills, Ladera Heights, and Baldwin Hills. As business owners and devoted members of our community, we recognize the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and landmarks.
1. Cultural Significance:
The billboard "Welcome to Black Beverly Hills" has emerged as an iconic landmark within our community. It not only celebrates the immense contributions of our neighborhood but also serves as a vital means of keeping our history alive and inspiring future generations. The removal of this billboard would be the erasure of a pivotal piece of our city's history.
2. Community Pride:
Black Beverly Hills billboard has had a profound impact on Los Angeles residents. The billboard has provided opportunities to promote other black businesses and has also been set as a memorial for legends in the Black community, while also acting as a landmark for the last 5 years. The removal of this landmark would disrupt the history our community so desperately needs to keep. The billboard also inspires other black people around the country with quotes like "One day I would love to own a business and move to the Black Beverly Hills."
3. Inspiration for Youth:
"Black Beverly Hills" is more than just a nickname for our neighborhood; it's a brand that has thrived for over a decade. By preserving this billboard, we can continue to inspire future generations with the same unwavering work ethic, determination, and commitment to excellence that has defined our community.
We implore the landlord owner to reconsider their decision and maintain this meaningful tribute intact. In doing so, we can honor the legacy of past residents, slow down gentrification in our community, inspire future generations, and uphold an essential cultural landmark in Los Angeles.
Together, let's preserve our historic Black Beverly Hills billboard and ensure that the spirit of our past residents remains alive in our city.
Our campaign is a heartfelt endeavor to shine a spotlight on the history of these remarkable neighborhoods through the lens of fashion and our prominent landmark billboard. This billboard, located at Slauson and Overhill, stands as an iconic symbol of our vibrant heritage. It's essential to us because it's time to ensure this vibrant heritage isn't forgotten or overlooked, and to enhance visibility for these communities.
The View Park-Windsor Hills area is rich with African American history. This billboard serves as a testament to that legacy, reminding us all of the significant contributions made by Black African Americans in this community. It's more than just a sign; it's an emblem of cultural pride.
However, this historic billboard is now under threat. We must act now if we want future generations to appreciate its significance as much as we do today.
We are calling on local authorities in Los Angeles County to take immediate action towards preserving this important piece of our community’s history. By doing so, they will be acknowledging and celebrating the heritage of Black African Americans in View Park-Windsor Hills - something that is long overdue.
We believe that every neighborhood has its unique story - let’s ensure ours continues being told through our historic billboard at Slauson and Overhill.
Please sign this petition today – together we can preserve not only a landmark but also an integral part of our identity for years to come
