The Issue

As the President of the Dauphin Rail Museum, this mission to conserve our history is near and dear to my heart. We call upon the City of Dauphin to preserve the 119-year-old Dauphin rail turntable in part or in its entirety. This historic structure, currently located at the City Public Works Shops (former CNR roundhouse), has been a cornerstone of our community and its twin narratives of growth and progress.

The Dauphin rail turntable remains an immensely unique architectural feature and plays an integral role in Dauphin's picturesque railroad history. Not only does it serve as an educational tool enhancing knowledge of our past, but it also stands as a testament to the tireless labours that contributed to the shaping of our community.

Even more significantly, this rail turntable is the only one of its kind remaining within the Province of Manitoba. This elevates its status from being merely a local treasure to a significant historical artifact in our province.

Preserving it will underline our community's commitment to pay tribute to our past while we forge ahead into the future. Neglecting it would be an immense loss not only for the City of Dauphin but also for the cultural and educational heritage of Manitoba.

Join us in this advocacy to protect, cherish, and pass on this irreplaceable piece of history. Please sign this petition to urge the City of Dauphin to ensure the preservation of the 119-year-old Dauphin rail turntable in its current location. Together, we can conserve our shared heritage for generations to come.

The names inscribed on the plaque from 1997 placed on the turntable reads as follows:  "The Above Donated So A Small Piece of Dauphin Railway History Would Remain In The Future".
