Important Information about the Camping Feasibility Study

Hi there,

There is one week left for you to make your voice heard regarding the Camping Feasibility Study.  A link to the survey is below, it will close on Friday, September 25th.  We have taken the survey and wanted to call your attention to the fact that it is structured in a way that is difficult to share your comments about negative impact on Seacliff and has many “forced choices”. We’ve created a few suggestions below to help make your voice heard.

1)       There are tabs for you to select the various beaches (New Brighton, Porter-Sesnon, Seacliff, etc.) and each of these has its own “mini survey.”

2)       After you complete questions about each beach, you must input/select your Zip code, Age and Ethnicity and submit it to register your feedback.

3)       Consider sticking with our message of “choose the alternative sites” by filling out the non-Seacliff beach ideas favorably, agreeing that those concept plans are good options.

4)       For the Seacliff mini survey, you have a choice of selecting which three things are most important to you and the last three best match our position (providing recreation trails and pedestrian access to the beach stairs, minimizing visual impacts to the neighborhood, and minimizing air quality impacts to the neighborhood).

5)       Also in the Seacliff survey is a “Seacliff Upper Bluff Area Preferred Concept” section where you are asked to select your favorite proposal. This is a forced choice which you do not have to make. Instead, do NOT click ANY of them because once you do you can not ‘unclick”. Instead, simply skip this question by selecting “Next” and going on to the next section. This is the only way to say that no Seacliff option is preferred.

6)       In several places throughout the survey, you are given a chance to provide feedback in a comment box which is a great opportunity to share your views about choosing an alternative camping site instead of Seacliff.  You are only allowed 200 characters or 45 words so your messaging needs to be succinct. Examples could be “choose an alternative site”, “preserve the Seacliff meadow”, “don’t pave the meadow”, or “camping doesn’t belong in a neighborhood”.

7)       The last ‘mini-survey” is about Camping Preferences where you have just 200 characters to explain what makes a good coastal camping experience. Answers like “in places that feel remote and undeveloped, where natural sounds—not cars or neighbors, shape the experience” or “good camping experiences preserve the qualities that make us seek out nature in the first place—quiet, darkness, solitude, and a sense of escape.”

8)       In the Camping Preferences section, you are also asked what type of camping you prefer, you can leave that blank and hit “Next” if you like.  The end of this section asks you to select three of your favorite concepts so in keeping with the “choose the alternative sites” theme, do not pick any from Seacliff.

Please don't miss this opportunity to provide State Parks with feedback about the concepts they've proposed.

Thanks for your support in preserving Seacliff,

Seacliff Strong
