We are sharing the letter (below) sent by Seacliff Improvement Foundation's President, Emily Chorba. Please read it, share it and attend tonight's meeting. It's important your voice be heard!

Dear Members,

Seacliff's last open space, the field at the top of the Seacliff State Beach stair, is at risk of becoming a camping and day-use area to replace what's being lost to coastal erosion at the beach. We need you at Tuesday's meeting to make sure our neighborhood's voice is heard before these concepts move forward.

What's happening: California State Parks manages Seacliff, New Brighton, and Sunset Beach State Parks. Storms and sea level rise are permanently destroying beach-level day-use and camping areas. State Parks is required to present options for relocating that recreation, and one option under discussion would move day use and camping up from the beach onto the open field and the State Park parking lot — right in the heart of our neighborhood.

Why it matters: This bluff top field is the last open, uncrowded space in Seacliff. Turning it into a camping and day-use area would permanently change the character of the neighborhood. And this isn't happening in isolation — Aptos and Seacliff are already absorbing the 624-bed Cabrillo College Student Housing project next to Hwy 1, plus the proposed Village on the Green development (197 three-bedroom townhomes and a 215-unit, seven-story affordable housing building) at the Par 3 site on Mar Vista Drive. Our neighborhood cannot absorb unlimited growth without losing what makes it worth living in.

To be fair to State Parks: Presenting these options isn't optional for them — it's part of the process required to secure FEMA and state funding to replace lost recreation space. We're not disputing they need to solve this problem. We're asking them to solve it somewhere other than Seacliff's last open field.

What we're asking: Come to Tuesday's meeting and tell State Parks directly that this bluff top field should be preserved, and that the replacement day-use and camping should be located somewhere that isn't in the middle of a long-established residential neighborhood.

Can't make it Tuesday?
