Preserve SCAD Building Arts Studio Culture

Preserve SCAD Building Arts Studio Culture
The Issue
As a dedicated learner and future professional, I am deeply concerned about the recent dramatic changes of our building arts studio classes. These rigorous, quality-driven class sessions were previously scheduled for five hours, but have been cut back dramatically. This change jeopardizes the reputation of our program, and more importantly, the education of its students.
With the old schedule, students were afforded critical breathing room between classes. This downtime allowed for digestion of complex concepts, collaborative discussions, and project plotting. According to academic research, such periods of rest are crucial in enhancing overall student productivity and learning (source: Psychology Today). Now, with classes every day, students find themselves overloaded, which is neither healthy nor productive. Unfortunately, this current scheme might lead our esteemed program astray and dilute our commitment to excellence.
Now is the time to act, not just for us, current students, but for those who will look to us in future renewals of the SCAD interior design legacy. We urge SCAD administration to reinstate the five-hour teaching schedule for Building Arts studio classes. By doing so, we can maintain our position in the discipline and continue the tradition of a program that fosters creativity, encourages collaboration, and values mental health. Please sign this petition to help protect the exemplary quality of education at SCAD.
