As our petition continues approaching 4,000 signatures, it is clear this is no longer a “small vocal minority.” Residents across Mandarin — including 32223, 32257, 32258, and parts of 32259 — are paying attention. Residents from Duval who use the road , enjoy the Museum events, the MCC events , the annual arts festival at MCC and the two marathons are listening .
What many residents are now seeing on social media is an increasing effort to discredit the petition itself rather than directly address the concerns being raised about Mandarin Road.
That alone says something important.
If the opposition to this project were truly insignificant, there would not be so much energy spent trying to minimize, explain away, or challenge the growing public response.
Residents are concerned about:
• loss of tree canopy and historic character
• aggressive use of right of way
• environmental impacts
• design constraints acknowledged by JTA itself
• and whether the public was fully informed before the project advanced.
Many people are also learning for the first time that the project proceeded under a federal Categorical Exclusion (CE), meaning a full Environmental Impact Statement was not required because significant impacts were not expected. Residents have every right to question whether that determination was appropriate for one of Jacksonville’s most historic and environmentally sensitive corridors.
This petition was never about social media drama. It is about preserving the character, beauty, and identity of Mandarin Road for future generations.
Thank you to everyone continuing to share, discuss, and support this effort.
