Statement from Ixia Chapter regarding JTA project along Mandarin Road:

We are disappointed that JTA has provided only 30% of anengineering survey to the public as requested regarding this project.  We are concerned about the lack of transparency regarding the species and number of trees to be removed. The public should be given all of the necessary survey information and be allowed to review this project.

For example, the destruction of live oaks along this corridor will have serious consequences.  Live Oaks are a keystone native plant species, meaning that they provide essential support of caterpillars from moths, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.  These are an essential food source for birds, especially those raising their young and other wildlife species such as box turtles.  Live Oaks also provide acorns, another essential food source for birds.  In addition, Live Oaks provide nesting and shelter.
