Preserve Leventhorpe Swimming Pool and Gym for the Community's Health and Wellbeing
The Issue
As someone who grappled with serious weight issues for the most part of my adult life, I owe a significant part of my health transformation to Leventhorpe Swimming Pool and Gym. A few years ago, I chose to bring about a change in my lifestyle and adopted a healthier routine: working out and swimming at Leventhorpe 5 times a week. This led me to shed over 8 stones and embrace a healthier and more mentally balanced life. Moreover, the community spirit at Leventhorpe is not one you find easily. Not only is the staff warm and welcoming, but the patrons too are like a big, supportive family. I've been fortunate to reconnect with old friends and make many new ones.
However, now the local pool and gym are threatened with closure. Despite the clear health benefits that community fitness centers deliver, and at a time when tackling obesity is a stated government priority, the Central government has withdrawn funding. East Herts Council too, is unable to distribute the funds fairly between Leventhorpe and Grange Paddocks, allowing Leventhorpe to be closed down.
Physical diligence isn’t just good for the body; there are also many mental benefits. This was profoundly evident during my weight loss journey. Leventhorpe Pool and Gym are not just a valuable asset for the fitness benefits, but also for the sense of community they nurture - all of which are under threat.
Please join me in urging the Central government and East Herts Council to reconsider this decision and help preserve Leventhorpe Swimming Pool and Gym. Stand up for community health and well-being. Stand up for Leventhorpe. Every signature counts. Please sign this petition!
