Preserve Landline Telephones for Essential Communication

Preserve Landline Telephones for Essential Communication
The Issue
As someone who has experienced the unreliability of cell phone networks firsthand, I understand the importance of preserving landline telephones. During my vacations in upstate New York, particularly in places like Letchworth State Park, cell phone service was non-existent. Even in everyday situations such as being stuck in an elevator, where cell phones usually don't get reception, landlines have proven to be a lifeline.
Landlines are not just personal conveniences; they are essential for businesses too. They provide a stable and reliable method of communication that is not always guaranteed with mobile networks. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as of December 2018, there were still about 35 million residential fixed telephone lines in use across America.
Moreover, during emergencies and natural disasters when cellular towers might be damaged or overloaded with calls, landlines often remain operational due to their underground infrastructure.
It's clear that eliminating landline telephones would leave many without a reliable form of communication when they need it most. We must preserve this essential service for those who depend on it daily and during times of emergency. Please sign this petition to keep our lines open!
