Preserve Chaparral Park: A Vital Space

Preserve Chaparral Park: A Vital Space
The Issue
Chaparral Park in Apple Valley, MN is more than just a park. For many homes in our neighborhood, it is our backyard, our single playground; a vital piece of our community fabric. This park serves as a necessary counterpoint to the steep, unusable slopes of many properties. This park is where our children run and play safely, and where our neighbors meet, helping us nurture a deep sense of community.
The proposed removal of Chaparral Park threatens not only our quality of life but also the safety of our children. Our kids depend on this park to establish their independence and friendships; it is unsafe and unrealistic to expect our young children from the backside or middle of the neighborhood to make it to Belmont park. The hills in this neighborhood are a challenge for the best of us.
The decision also impacts our financial wellbeing, as playgrounds are significant selling points for our homes and thus, resale value of our property. The parks and playgrounds are why you see a lovely blend of 25+ year homeowners who have raised their children with this playground and turnover of many homes to a new generation of young families. This new generation expects to utilize Chaparral Park as advertised in their listings to replicate the beautiful stories heard of those who lived here before.
The value of this beloved park is demonstrated by the sheer number of children we see here, actively utilizing the space. This includes in the heat, rain, and snow. Their numerous presence warrants reconsideration of its removal and an additional look at the importance of an update to our community.
We care deeply about our neighbors and the existence of this playground. We appeal to the city authorities of Apple Valley to halt plans for removing Chaparral Park and to preserve this vital space for the families who rely on it. We kindly request community members to lend their support to this cause. Please sign this petition to aid in preserving Chaparral Park for our present and future generations.
Chaparral Park is more than just a park.
