The Issue

We are petitioning as concerned residents and parents to express our support for preserving the Bandstand Promenade Central Garden as a dedicated toddler’s and children’s garden in the evenings.

In light of recent discussions about opening the garden for unrestricted public use, we respectfully request that its primary purpose as a safe space for toddlers and children be retained. While we appreciate that there are differing views, we believe this garden serves a unique and irreplaceable role in our community.

In a densely populated city, access to clean, well-maintained green spaces is becoming increasingly rare. For many children, this garden that the BBRT has maintained so well, is their daily connection to nature — a place to run barefoot on the grass, explore, play freely, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.

The Bandstand Promenade Central Garden is also a truly inclusive space where children from all walks of life come together to play, learn, share and build friendships. It provides families with a safe environment designed specifically for young children — something that cannot easily be replaced by general public spaces.

Opening the garden for unrestricted public use would inevitably reduce the availability of this dedicated space for toddlers and young children, leading to overcrowding and diminishing its function as a child-friendly environment. While there are several public spaces available for general recreation (such as the nearby Bandra Fort Garden), there are very few parks thoughtfully designed and maintained with the needs of very young children at their heart.

As a community, we have a responsibility to protect spaces that nurture the healthy development of our youngest citizens. Preserving the Bandstand Promenade Central Garden as a dedicated toddler’s and children's garden in the evenings is an investment in the wellbeing of our children and in the future of our neighbourhood.

We respectfully request support in protecting this valuable community space and ensuring it remains safe, accessible, and well maintained for the children and families who rely on it.
