By your support in signing this petition, your numerous comments in favor of the preservation and protection of the Columbus sculpture in front of town hall, and presence in tonight's peaceful march in strong support of Columbus - the Scotch Plains Council voted 5-0 in favor of maintaining the statue where it is today. However, at the end of the vote Deputy Mayor Losardo said that during the redevelopment of our township hall that the statue may have to be moved and at that time maybe the inscription should NOT include Columbus. While we have victory today, the future is not so certain. Please stay vigilant and stay the course in maintaining that Columbus be a part of our heritage for future generations in Scotch Plains.
