Preserve and Maintain Vallejo Halfpipe and Ramps!

Preserve and Maintain Vallejo Halfpipe and Ramps!
The Issue
Keep the Vallejo Wardlaw half pipe. It is more than just a skating structure; it is a staple in our community. People travel to Vallejo specifically to skate our beloved half pipe, therefore spending money and financially benefiting our city. Despite minor fixable issues, it remains extremely sturdy and reliable over time. Our half pipe is extremely smooth in all aspects, therefore making it the perfect place to safely learn new skills and further develop existing ones!
Many skaters, including myself, have learned a great portion of our tricks on the Vallejo Wardlaw halfpipe. (See comments under this section). It is extremely forgiving, which makes it the perfect obstacle for new learners! This park, and particularly its half pipe have been an integral part of my life and growth as a person and a roller skater. It has taught me patience, confidence, and passion. The late night skate sessions on the halfpipe, the learning of new tricks, the community gatherings; All while having a blast in a safe way. The Vallejo half pipe truly makes the skatepark feel like a second home to locals skaters.
Our half pipe is the main attraction of the Vallejo skatepark. It has continuously been the center of local skating contests and events. Local skaters especially love to use the surrounding ramps to transfer into the half pipe. It can be quite a thrill, nonetheless, it is done in a safe manner due to the ramp's current infrastructure. The softness of the current half pipe and ramps allows us to safely slide down when we fall instead of immediately hitting the ground on impact like a concrete ramp would. In comparison, a cement mini ramp would be more prone to injuries, especially with kids; therefore we believe the Vallejo Half pipe should be preserved and maintained.
Our community loves this half pipe and wants to continue enjoying its benefits for many more years to come. However, we are aware that nothing lasts forever without proper care and attention. Therefore, we urge those in power not only to preserve but also maintain these iconic structures that hold so much value for us as individuals and as a community. Let's ensure future generations can learn patience, confidence, and passion - just like many of us did from these beloved parts of our local landscape. Keep the Vallejo Wardlaw half pipe and ramps!

Here's what skaters in the community have to say about the iconic Vallejo half pipe and ramps:
I’ve been everywhere and I’d say Wardlaw is the best skatepark for learning.
— MAD-J former local
Mini ramps have provided me, an adult autistic beginner skater, with a comfortable environment to learn a new sport that is highly stimulating and regulating. My life would not be the same if it were not for parks and features like this. The mini ramp at Vallejo skatepark should remain as an accessible gateway to healthier lifestyles for all community members.
— Carly Beard
Wardlaw has been a place of tremendous growth for me as a quad skater, especially the mini ramp. The soft material used on the mini ramp has created a very safe environment for me to make mistakes and fall repeatedly. The mellow transition also invites people from all stages of their skate journey to feel comfortable to ride. I feel that the mini ramp is a staple piece at Wardlaw skate park.
— Xoxo Masterladybugs - local roller skater 💋
I like learning new tricks and having fun with the homies on the half pipe.
— Beanieboy - local skateboarder
Every local at Vallejo park learned at least half of their tricks on the half pipe.
— Rowan - local skateboarder
It’s an escape from the world.
— Anonymous skater
My favorite part is the transfer from the ramp into the half pipe and it doesn’t hurt to fall.
— Gothman - local skateboarder
I’m not an advanced skater and the half pipe is the only thing I can practice. It’s really good for people like me who can use it to get better and then eventually move on to harder obstacles.
— Stacy - Local roller skater
