The Issue

India has always been more than just a country for me; it was my mother. Every corner of this vibrant land, from its snow-capped Himalayas to the sun-kissed shores of Kerala, is imbued with an unparalleled cultural richness that I hold dear to my heart. However, as modernisation sweeps across the globe, many traditional aspects of Indian culture risk getting overshadowed or forgotten.

The essence of India lies in its diversity, its art forms, its languages, its festivals, and its customs. For centuries, this intricate tapestry of cultures has taught the world about harmony and coexistence. Yet, I fear that with the increasing influence of Western culture and the digital era's rapid pace, we are losing touch with our roots.

Consider our traditional music and dance forms, such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, or Hindustani classical music. They are not mere forms of entertainment but essential elements of our identity. The declining interest among the younger generation in these art forms is alarming. According to a study by The Hindu, less than 20% of urban Indian youth have a basic understanding of any classical art form.

Additionally, many indigenous languages and dialects are on the brink of extinction. UNESCO's Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger lists over 197 Indian languages as "endangered." These languages carry centuries of wisdom, traditions, and local knowledge that risk disappearing forever.

We need to act now to preserve our cultural heritage. I urge the Ministry of Culture to launch initiatives that promote traditional arts and languages, making them an integral part of education across all stages. Create platforms where the grace of our dance forms can be showcased, and the beauty of our languages can be celebrated.

Let's craft policies that align with both our development goals and cultural preservation, ensuring our future generations experience the richness of our heritage, not just as a part of history but as a living, breathing reality.

Sign this petition to call for concrete measures to conserve and celebrate the vibrant culture of India. Together, let's keep the spirit of India alive for the generations to come.
