Allen Morris Park Withdrawn from Rapid Transit Zone (RTZ), Jurisdiction Reverts to City District 3

As of this week, the submission for Allen Morris Park to be included in the Rapid Transit Zone (RTZ) under the county has been officially withdrawn at the county commission meeting by Commissioner Lopez after hearing our concerns. 

With this, the jurisdiction of the park officially turns back to the city under District 3, managed by Commissioner Escalona. Commisioner Escalona and his office have generally been responsive. I’ve had a running email chain on the topic of Brickell parks that we’ve been engaging in since this January with his office. And it is appreciated that Commisioner Escalona and his office are making investments in some new and existing parks between a new, small dog park by the Brickell Flatiron, reopening the playground in Southside Park amidst the terrible legal situation with the Mercedes Benz development, and further investment in Tibor and Sheila Hollo Park. 

Because of this understanding of the importance of parks and green spaces in Brickell by this office, I am hopeful the Commissioner’s team can do more for the Allen Morris Park issue to bring transparency, resident concerns and voices, and potentially even bring the Allen Morris Company to the table to reconsider their repossession of this park for their own profit interests.
