Plans for restaurant development in Allen Morris Park, expected protection of trees

Thank you to all supporting interest in preserving our green spaces in Brickell, such as Allen Morris Park.

I’ve heard an update from the local District 3 team I wanted to share. My understanding is that a restaurant development is expected to move forward in this park space.

I know this is not exactly what might be desired by many but the team did emphatically assure me there is an intention to build the space around the trees at the very least and protect and preserve them. They seem to have confidence in the plans of the restaurant maximizing and protecting the greenery of the space and mentioned many trees are protected anyways and cannot be taken down without certain processes.

I am comforted by the assurances that at least the beautiful trees will still stand. But I understand this might not be many’s ideal vision, including mine, as the best state would be to have a beautiful clean and safe park maintained by our city. Unfortunately, this property is no longer owned by the city so there are limits on what can be done. If you are still concerned by these plans, I encourage you to reach out to the district 3 team to get more information and voice any concerns: https://www.miami.gov/My-Government/City-Officials/District-3-Rolando-Escalona
