Are you concerned about the growing population of vacation home rentals in 29 Palms? Please consider attending the Tuesday, August 24th City Council meeting @ 29 Palms High School at 6 PM. The is an important meeting. Preserve29Palms waited over a year for the council to address the issue of limitations on VHRs. City Council will vote on a moratorium and a committee will be formed to discuss limits on VHR‘s. The committee will include members of the community.
The 29 Palms PC has been rubber-stamping VHR permits for years. In 2020 members of Preserve29Palms presented a petition to the City council asking for a moratorium on seasonal rentals and limitations on the current seasonal rental ordinance.
City Council recently added a $300 fee to the appeal process. The original procedure allowed for an appeal at the planning commission level and if denied, you could appeal to the City Council. Both appeals were free. When we started exercising our rights and appealing VHR permits at CP and CC Meetings, the City Council decided to roadblock our efforts by adding a $300 fee to the City Council appeal process.
Please attend the meeting on August 24 and voice your opinion to the City Council. We need an immediate moratorium and limitations on seasonal rentals as outlined in the Preserve29Palms petition.
