On April 1st, 2014, York Region Community and Health Services will no longer be providing care to seniors in the Alternative Community Living Centres (ACL's).
In January 2011, The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) introduced the Assisted Living For High Risk Seniors Policy which has resulted in significant changes to the eligibility criteria for our seniors to receive services via the Alternative Community Living Centres (ACL). In York Region, the ACL's currently provide care to approximatley 225 seniors who are deemed to be frail and/or cognitively imparied.
These imminent changes in services include reductions in the level of care that our seniors currently receive are not limited to: no on site 24/7 care, no established continuity of care and services being moved to a "hub and spoke model". This means any call from our seniors in distress and/or in urgent need of care, will be placed in a call queue and wait a minimum of fifteen minutes for care, given that there will be no further on site services.
Please help #SaveOurSeniors by signing this petition and requesting that these decisions be reversed immediatley for the health and welfare of our seniors. We will deliver this petition to the Hon. Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care by April 1st, 2014. Please help today!
