The Issue

In the wake of CNN's film Blackfish, the world is errupting with controversy around the capture and captivity of Orca Whales and other cetaceans. California is proposing a bill that would prevent capture and captivity, affecting Seaworld San Diego's ability to hold their Orca Whale performances.

Seaworld is a buisness, much like Ontario's Marineland which has gone under its own barrage of petitions and complaints in regards to the safety and security of the animals it holds. Things aren't going to change unless there is government intervention. Seaworld and Marineland will never give up their holds on a million, if not billion, dollar industry.

I am calling for the province of Ontario to make a difference and to provide an example for how we should treat the animals of our world, especially the ones who have shown sentient similar to our human capabilities. These animals have family, have emotions, have lives. They are not going extinct, and they are not endangered in the wild. They are only in trouble when in the hands of humans.

People have died, Orcas have died. Don't let it continue.

Watch Blackfish, read Death at Seaworld by David Kirby. Marineland needs to be shut down, but if that is not within reach, then they at least need to have regulations put in place on the animals they are allowed to hold. Please start with the Orca Whales.
