WA Premier: our company is finished because State projects won’t pay us

WA Premier: our company is finished because State projects won’t pay us
The issue
It’s heartbreaking - I was just forced to make 34 employees & friends redundant because we didn’t get paid for work we completed on a WA Government project.
During the Christmas holidays, our state contract for the Perth Stadium got terminated after we’d already completed 12 months of work. Now we’re owed over $1 million and they’re refusing to pay us.
I’m sick of small business being screwed over. My wife and I started Vortech, a leading air conditioning business 23 years ago. In that time, we’ve seen a lot of - rich, greedy companies allowed to manipulate contracts of state government projects to rip off smaller players like us.
WA Premier Colin Barnett & his Treasury dept. is well aware we’ve been screwed - exploited for months of work on a State project, and then denied payment. But he’s done nothing.
There’s no protection for subcontractors like me, and this isn’t the first time I've lost money on a State Project. Like many other sub-contractors, we lost $1.2 million on the controversial Perth Children’s Hospital.
Premier Barnett, we are pleading with you, in the lead up to the election, please urgently tighten regulation around subcontracting to protect us from corporate greed.
