Preffered Name/Pronouns In ROHS Schools System

Preffered Name/Pronouns In ROHS Schools System

The Issue

As a student at Royal Oak High School, every day in class I have the disappointment of being addressed with my deadname and wrong pronouns, whether its verbally or written on paper or online. When you are a student who identifies as something other than what your birth certificate says, its very difficult trying to get away from that. While students can ask to be called a certain name and addressed with certain pronouns, it doesn't always happen. For example, when we go online to checkout our grades on Mistar, it immediately welcomes us with our deadname. Or when a substitute is taking care of our class for a day, they will read the list of names and unknowingly deadname us, or when the teacher is sharing their screen on the board and they bring an example of our work up, our deadname is displayed to the entire class and even when we are handed our own individual worksheets, it still identifies us with the wrong name. Its an extremely uncomfortable thing for us transgender students to have to endure. We deserve to be addressed with who we are, not what we were supposed to be. And with the policies of Royal Oak High School, you claim to "Challenge our students to become productive, life-long learners in a diverse, technological, ever-changing world" so please, if you really want us to become productive, life-long learners, allow us to be comfortable in your building and to be as diverse as we want to by allowing an option for a students preffered name and pronouns to be put in the schools system and for them to be addressed as such, no matter the situation.
