One of the best veterinary colleges in India with an attached hospital functions in Hebbal. This teaching hospital has the best of doctors & academics, good infrastructure and network with research and academia. 

While people from all over Bangalore come here for the high quality of veterinary diagnosis and care, the functioning only till 4 pm leaves many animals and owners stranded in case of emergency. In addition, many working people can come in only after hours. 

Give the access to staff in campus, active PG and UG students, and existing hospital  infrastructure, it should be logical and very easy to upgrade the timings to 24 hours, with back up  stand by doctors on the night shift. The students also learn a lot of the issues in the real world with night shifts etc. 

Delhi has already launched this in Tis Hazari  in 2019 going by the‘Animal Health and Welfare Policy, 2018’. This policy seeks to curb down the increasing birth rate of monkeys, a revised regime for sterilisation of stray dogs and electronic chips to recognize owners of pets and cattle lost in the city. The Delhi Vet Hospital is successful at treating many such suffering animals. Many other states have also planned it .

Given the very few things needed to shift this excellent, historic and iconic hospital into a tough the clock mode, we should debate what exactly is required on staffing, medicines, inpatient facilities and step quickly into a 24/7 facility on a beta mode. 

Let us join the capital in having a state of the art, 24/7 round the clock  hospital facility available to our citizens and voiceless animals. We request or VC and Animal Husbandry Minister to please approve and implement this compassionate move.
