The Issue

For many elderly residents in our rural villages, the closure of the full-time post office in Brinscall (following the resignation of our previous postmasters who did an excellent job!) and the temporary closure of the pop-up service in Wheelton has been more than just an inconvenience it's become a really isolating experience for them. Our villages depend heavily on local post offices to stay connected to the world, manage our finances, and receive essential services like pensions and bill payments.

Currently, the elderly and those without access to personal transportation are forced to travel miles to reach the nearest available post offices in Whittle-le-Woods or on Eaves Lane, Chorley. Many make these journeys on foot or rely on infrequent and often unreliable bus services. This is not only unfair but unsafe for those who are vulnerable and at risk.

We need immediate action from Post Office Ltd to implement a temporary/mobile outreach service to all affected villages. Such a service would provide a crucial lifeline until a reliable, full-time post office is reestablished within these communities. We would like this commitment of reinstating full-time services to be met within three months to prevent further hardship.

Our rural communities deserve the same respect and access to essential services as urban areas. Access to a local post office is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

We call on Post Office Ltd to recognise the urgent needs of Brinscall, Wheelton, Withnell, Abbey Village, Heapey and surrounding villages and to act swiftly to restore service continuity. Please support us by signing this petition, urging Post Office Ltd to commit to serving our communities with the integrity and consistency they deserve.
