Post Office Letting Their Community Down

Post Office Letting Their Community Down
The Issue
In response to the ongoing difficulty with the local post office, I am starting this change.org petition. Additionally, I've filed complaints against the local post office using USPS.com, bottom of the page: Contact Us, Email Us, Personnel. Report what is going on with your packages.
Another option is to make a FOIA request at https://www.foia.gov/how-to.html (copy and paste this address into the browser bar). They are not following their own policies and they are trying to circumnavigate their own system.
Finally, here are contacts to email directly:
Katrina.J.Campbell@usps.gov Postmaster in Denton, MT (Supervisor of Superior, MT staff)
Breyanna.L.King@usps.gov (Postal Clerk in Superior, MT)
Below is the text from the letter in a FOIA request made on July 8, 2024.
"This responds to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated July 8, 2024 in which you seek access to Postal Service records. Specifically, you requested:
- I am requesting the policy for package delivery by rural carriers.
- Specifically, limitations on being able to back up and get out of their vehicles.
(From my complaint to the USPS: Recently, the rural carriers have stopped delivering packages to my house. I've received typed notes saying carriers are not allowed to get out of their vehicles and are not allowed to back up. Their suggestions for getting packages is that I grant carriers permission to place my packages on the ground at my streetside mailbox. I will not approve this because I cannot imagine it is correct for the USPS to leave packages out in the weather and subject to increased threat of theft. I made a complaint about this once already, and received a phone call from the local post office staff saying it was "out of their hands, it's the higher ups, it's policy". I requested a copy of the policy to see for myself rather than these typewritten messages
they are leaving in my mailbox. I was told by this staff member at the Superior post office that I would be given a copy of the policy that is dictating carriers not to get out of vehicles or drive in reverse (despite needing to do so to get out of the parking spot at the post office). I haven't
received a copy of this policy.
Under the FOIA, a federal government agency shall determine within twenty (20) working days (i.e. Monday through Friday, excepting legal public holidays) after the receipt of any proper request whether to comply and shall immediately notify the requester of any final determination(s), reasons of said determination(s), or any potential “unusual circumstances” that may prevent a final determination within the allotted twenty (20) day timeframe. 5 U.S.C. §552(a). Based on the information provided by you, the agency official having jurisdiction over the subject matter of your request is the Vice President, Delivery Operations, 475 L’Enfant Plaza, SW, Room 7142,
Washington, DC 20260-7116.
I have forwarded your request to that office for action and direct response to you. You may contact Roxanne Thomas, Operations Performance Analyst, at 202-268-6221 with any questions."
If you are fed up with your packages and mail not being delivered for ridiculous reasons (tree roots, not level or paved driveways, etc.), then hold them accountable. It is not the fault of the residents of Superior, MT that the local post office has accepted these Amazon delivery contracts and cannot uphold their end of the bargain. It goes so much beyond convenience items. They are refusing to deliver medications, they are asking residents to allow them to put deliveries at risk for destruction and theift.
Do not just accept their statements they they are not allowed to back up or get out of their vehicles to walk up driveways. This is absolutely not true, and you do not have to just accept it. Report their behavior, sign this petition, make FOIA requests for the policies they are going around! If nothing else, let the local post office know that you are not willing to just roll over and accept their behavior as acceptable.
