Community Alliance of Tenants declared a Renter's State of Emergency which led to the Portland City Council itself declaring a Official Housing State of Emergency.

While we applaud the City's action to add some relief and protections for renters this changes are not enough and we call on Portland City Council to give more authority to the Bureau of Development Services and City Attorney's Office to take enforcement action against Airbnb and Airbnb Hosts in Portland that do not:

1. Follow completely Portland's Short Term Rental Ordinance
2. Register for City of Portland / Multnomah County Business Tax

Other cities have realized how Airbnb is causing rentals to be taken off the market and converted into short term rentals only. This impacts a housing market already in crisis and we need action now.
