PMHC to act on safety concerns relating to Lighthouse Road

PMHC to act on safety concerns relating to Lighthouse Road
The issue
For approximately the past ten years local residents have been raising concerns regarding the condition of Lighthouse Road in Port Macquarie however, despite a number of accidents, the local council has dismissed these concerns while mis-quoting the number of accidents over the past five years in a local newspaper article. This pretty well sums up the disregard the Council has for residents of Lighthouse Road.
The road is one of three arterial roads into the Lighthouse Beach north precinct, and the Council have stated that up to 6000 vehicles use the road daily. Further, the road leads to the Tacking Point Lighthouse, a well known and visited attraction for tourists and locals alike - especially when the whales are travelling past.
With the road being narrow, very windy, having no cycleways or footpaths and suffering from subsidence in several areas it is little wonder that accidents have happened. Local residents have long held concerns for pedestrians, as well as their own property, and the accident that occurred on 27 July 2020 where a vehicle left the road at speed and crashed into a home, causing extensive damage, is nothing short of a miracle in that no innocent bystander was injured.
Please join me in calling for the PMHC to take immediate action to alleviate the dangers of this road, as well as looking into long term solutions.
