The Issue
Many employees of JFK International Airport are in great need of an on-site child care facility with reasonable hours to accommodate the “round the clock” shifts and schedule most employees endure. An on site facility makes it convenient for employees as JFK is located far from residential areas. An on-site facility has proven highly successful at many other airports and other Port Authority locations. It greatly benefits the employer and the employee. Parents will prefer an on site facility as only those with an AOA access card will have access adding a layer of security.
Employer benefits are as follows: breastfeeding mothers will want to come back to work sooner if they are able to see their child to provide breastmilk in the work day; mothers and fathers will more than likely return to work instead of be forced to resign or relocate; and employer has access to daycare schedules.
Eligible employees range from Port Authority, TSA, CBP, Airline employees, TWA Hotel employees, JFK staff, NYPD, NY State police, National Guard members, contractors etc.
Employees benefits include: commuting benefits, comfort and knowledge of care from employer. Most would benefit from a facility whose hours and schedule were conducive to accommodate most 7 day a week shift workers.
