St. Thaddeus was a winning parish – vibrant, fiscally sound, community-based, historical. Why would the Archdiocese of Chicago dismantle a “winning” parish? See what made St. Thaddeus a winner! • Second Parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago founded by African-Americans. • Mission Church from Holy Name of Mary Church. • Designed by Edo Belli, a world famous architect of modern style. • A pillar of the Roseland Community (Lilydale). • Financially stable and viable Church. • No Debt: Over 350,000 dollars in savings. • A membership of over 200 including African Americans, Caribbean, Caucasians, Cubans, Chinese-Americans, Mexican Americans, Nigerians, Ugandans and others. • 18 ministries and organizations. • First St. Vincent DePaul Society on the Southside of Chicago in the Black Community. • Economic engine: supported one pastor; two nuns; secretary; housekeeper; janitor; security landscaping and choir director. • Rental Income from Church and community activities; high school reunions; stepping parties; receptions including: weddings; pre-pass/re-pass; baby showers. • School rented until August of 2016. • Church Facility: New roof under a year old. (Replaced 2016) • Church facility covers 75% of Block. • Physical Parish includes Church with basement; two story rectory; detached garage and one story school. • Air Conditioning, Heating and Windows under 10 years old. • First and only African American Chapter of the Christian Family Movement in Chicago • St. Thaddeus School: one of the first Afro-centric Educational Model. • Last Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Elementary school built (1968). No schools built until over 50 years later. • Three Deacons from St. Thaddeus in the Archdiocese of Chicago’s first class.
