Padur area residents formed a whatsapp group to address some of the basic public amenities in the area including the illegal raw sewage water dumping, garbage dumping and burning on the shores of Muttukadu backwaters. Few from the team met the Collector of Kancheepram, Mr. P. Ponniah and the response was positive. As we waited in the Collector office, I was particularly impressed at the professionalism and empathy shown by Mr. Rajesh, Collector Personal Assistant, to the people visiting the collector for various issues. After few weeks of Collector visit, we visited Block Development Officer, Mr. Babu. Again, response was very encouraging. In response to my petition to CM cell, below response was received and the place has been cleaned. We will declare victory when we know what will happen to this clean place. We hope to find alternative use of this area preserving the ground water for residents and the birds migratory area. We also hope that washing of garbage by tides on Kovalam beaches from such garbage dumps on the shores of muttukadu lake will be reduced.
