Pollution at Trá na mBan in Spiddal

Pollution at Trá na mBan in Spiddal
The Issue
I have such happy memories of swimming in the sea in Spiddal. Unfortunately, many youngsters and locals no longer swim at the beautiful beach because of the threat of E.coli infection. What should be an amazing amenity for locals and tourists alike, is effectively unavailable according to the EPA (environmental protection agency).
LATEST INFO: I discovered today that the classification of poor water quality is as a result of EPA procedures. They look at the last 4 years. The beach has actually had excellent results since September 2022 ( https://www.beaches.ie/find-a-beach/#/beach/IEWEBWC010_0000_0400 and despite the installation of a treatment plant by Uisce Éireann only last year and activated last summer, Trá na mBan or the prom in Spiddal remains classified as hazardous and polluted with E.coli from sewage and the EPA are not qualifying their communication of the results to state that it has improved with the installation of the treatment plant and has been excellent in every test in the last 2 years. This is causing a lot of damage to An Spidéal in terms of tourism and perception. This situation demands immediate action by both local and national politicians to investigate why the EPA classify this way.
Please sign this petition to urge our leaders to take swift action to ensure that our village and all those people that operate brilliant small businesses there are not damaged by this crazy situation.
