Our police department should be REQUIRED to obtain (preferably) a bachelors degree in sociology and psychology. If they are unable to do so then they should not be allowed to serve the force. They should obtain this to learn about cultural differences and psychological differences. If they do not care for these matters then how can we trust they will protect our diverse communities properly. They should be able to control a situation without violence unless needed for their own safety and because many police officers don’t know how to control a situation they often resort to violence, which more times than others, affects the black community. 
map for example this petition is to make becoming an officer more selective like nursing, and law schools. They must complete these courses to be able to be accepted by the police academy.
