The Issue

The Pockets Inequality:

Christian Dior once said 'Men have pockets to keep things in, women for decoration'. Even today women's pockets are often shallow, small, and sometimes even fake, while men's pockets are deep, spacious, and functional. The statistics are staggering: only 5% of women's pockets can fit a smartphone, compared to 85% of men's pockets. On average, women's pockets are 48% shorter and 6.5% narrower than men's pockets. Most women's clothing items lack pockets altogether.

The Bigger Picture:

For centuries, women's clothing has been designed without practical pockets, a detail that may seem minor but is emblematic of larger issues of gender inequality. It represents the imbalanced distribution of convenience, practicality and functionality in our lives. It's a reminder that women are often expected to carry their essentials in handbags, making them reliant on additional accessories and perpetuating gender stereotypes.

Pockets for women in the 21st century:

According to the Guardian, the true "age of pockets" has now arrived, because everything necessary for daily life has become so small and finite in terms of bulk. Cash is of limited use, and address books, diaries and maps are antiquated. Phones, and perhaps a chapstick, car keys and cards are really all a woman needs to step out, and this should mean we are not lumbered with bags any more.

What does the #PocketsPledge demand?

#PocketsPledge is a united ask from all women who want to wear garments with practical pockets. We insist on functional pockets in ALL women's clothing items, from dresses and skirts to jeans and blazers. This is a bold statement against the fashion industry's disregard for women's needs and demands change. It's time to bridge the gap and level the playing field. Let's amplify our voices, push for a paradigm shift, and ensure that future generations of women won't have to compromise convenience for style.

This is what inspired Point Of View Label. We want all women's garments to be as purposeful as they are statement making.  But we can only make a difference if all brands come together with us and imagine a future with functional pockets.

Join Us:

We invite all women and allies to sign this petition and share it with your friends and family, asking the Federal Trade Commission, Fashion brands, Designers, and various decision-makers of the apparel industry to commit to making pockets a non negotiable aspect of women's clothing.

Your support gives us hope that in this generation, women will achieve pockets equality and together we will pave the way for a more equal, practical, and inclusive world.
