Zero Tolerance of Violence on Doctors

Till when will we doctors remain patient with the assaults on doctors. Tomorrow it could be you or me. I am a pediatrician but I am afraid when I see patients. I don't know when someone will start hitting me. Because they have no fear. Law is on their side, the politicians are on their side, the media is on their side.... They don't have to fear about the punishment. Its so easy to beat a doctor. In India its like "Yaar , aaj movie chalte hai... Nahi yaar, hospital chal, doctor ko maar k aate hai".("Lets go to a movie today for entertainment.... No dear, lets go to a hospital an beat up a doctor instead." Whenever a doctor goes to a hospital, he feels like he is heading for a battlefield. Lets hope all doctors - senior or junior, government or private, male or female, consultant or internee, teacher or student, clinical or nonclinical - will stand united at this time. We need to adopt the attitude of Zero tolerance of violence on doctors.
