The Issue

The untold story of  Cows at Kapila Park in Mangalore.

Kapila Park goushala a heaven for desi and rescued cows was located in Kenjar on the International Airport Road in Mangalore, started in the year 2008 . This  place  shelters more than 300 cows including mothers- calves, old abandoned cows, bulls etc.  even the cattle seized by the police were brought here to be taken care of  temporarily. A tiny little bird struggles, goes to hundreds of places before picking up the choicest of material to build a strong yet beautiful little nest to nurture it's family. Kapila Park goushala tried to replicate the same for the cows . Cows who were lost, who were abandoned ,  found injured and some who just walked into our little nest and made our house their home. From a humble beginning of a few cows, Kapila park today has multiplied 10 times with a full house of 300 cows. We had a beautiful family filled with calves and mothers, bulls and some senior cows as well, all taken care like little kids who had their own comfortable wards and rooms. We all together, the bovines and humans shared our lives with each other, happiness, sadness, all our ups and downs, we were one big family untill evil eye cast it's spell on our happy existence.

This shelter of 12,000 sq.ft. was built very carefully keeping in mind the freedom of the bovines.  Everything was going on well till the local authorities decided to bring it down one fine day to make the way for the proposed Coast Guard Academy project.

The once existent paradise is just a pile of stones and cement now . Cattle are on the streets, homeless, clueless. A nest  that was designed for them with love and dedication after eight years of hard work, was broken down in minutes,  is this fair?

On 4 march 2021, KIADB came and demolished the Goushala,  according to them 19 cents was the disputed property but they demolished the entire 37 cents land in which the Goushala was situated. We welcome development but why wouldn't alternate arrangements made before this? the cows were chased out of their shelter some of the cows  were still inside the shelter when JCB started demolishing the shelter. The pain is too much to even imagine the pain these cows are undergoing daily without shelter. Today all these poor animals are homeless. They were lying in open space without the shelter because of the cruel act of administrators. If the administrators had any issue with  land related, they should have constructed a separate Gaushala with all facilities like the earlier one and then  demolished it. But here the administrators demolished the Gaushala without any single arrangement for these poor animals and abandoned them on street. Some of the cows had  left for grazing early morning before this incident happened. Some were ruthlessly abandoned by the demolishers  to the street while demolishing. When the cows came back to their earlier location in the evening ,they were searching for food and shelter. Some went missing late night, few  cows are delivering young ones in the open space without shelter. Many of the cows and bulls  were injured while they tried to enter the demolished shelter . Many cows were brutally hit using the stones by the people who were hired by the administrators. Heights of Cruelty shown towards these poor animals.

It's been 25 days since this happened, cows are  all on the streets, roaming around in the hot sun, sleeping in open fields oblivious to dangers that lurk around . There are young mothers who have given birth to 10 calves in the last week, all in the lap of nature. There are old cows and bulls whoes peace has withered. All thanks to the cruel twisted intentions of our heartless officials.

They say, if it's not a happy ending, it’s not the end of the world. Their tears still haven't dried but they continue to dream of getting back their little nest where their little calves can run free, the  old cows can peacefully rest and things can get back to normalcy. Monsoons start in about a month and will last for 3-4 months at least leaving the helpless animals even more helpless. In these bad times, we are looking for help with hands folded for the heroes of our story to come forward and help us smile again. Will you be the one? Pls..

We seek help  for these innocent cows who are suffering till date without shelter. It’s a humble request,  to help us in rehabilitation of these innocent Cows by rebuilding a shelter for them, so they will have a shelter to stay. Looking forward for your help in building an immediate shelter for these living ones.
