An enquire into the administration of NDIS
The issue
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was created to support people with disabilities to help them purchase equipment and services to support them in their daily lives. However, the reality is the government scheme is inept and a complete debacle.
Thousands of people across Australia have been frustrated and unable to get funding to be able to buy needed equipment and services. This was highlighted in the recent National elections by the Labor Government, highlighting a number of cases. With the current government actually shifting funds out of the scheme saying that it was surplus funding not required. This approach is either deliberate or very ill-informed by the government.
As parents of a child with disabilities, I can not begin to explain the complete bewilderment at the completely inadequate system. Where you can not contact the same person twice. No one is willing to give out a number for a return call. There is no central go-to place that can tell you how the application is going. A customer service center that has no service or useful information.
We have applied for an upgrade for our daughter's equipment 2 years ago. Once I was told the application has been lost due to a computer issue, please re-apply. Still, there is no outcome, no one knows what is happening. You can imagine our complete disbelief, frustration, time wasted with no resolution, or any hope of finding out if there will be a resolution.
We must not let a group of disabled Australians to be marginalized and swept under the carpet.
