Pledge Support and Condemn-Juvenile tennis player molested, CLTA management supporting the molesters and age fraudsters
A juvenile tennis playing girl was molested at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association – CLTA Sports Complex, Sector 10 Chandigarh by 5 CHART Academy resident trainees including a Junior Davis Cup player, in July 2019. On the complaint of victim’s father, Chandigarh Police filed a case of sexual harassment & molestation under section 354, 354-A, 354-D, 506 & POCSO 10, 12 against 5 accused. As per the FIR, CLTA management threatened to ruin her tennis career if she opens her mouth. The complaint accuses CLTA President Jai Singh Gill, former Chief Secretary, Punjab and Chairman, Sixth Pay Commission of Punjab, CLTA COO Meghraj, retd. IAS and CLTA Chief Coach Romen Singh but Chandigarh Police did not press charges against them.
Rather than supporting the juvenile girl, CLTA management run by Rajan Kashyap, Patron in chief and former Chief Secretary Punjab and Jai Singh Gill used their influence to file a counter FIR against victim’s father through one of the accused, for raising voice to demand justice for his juvenile daughter. CLTA management was fully supported in this misdemeanor by Neeraj Sarna, Inspector in the Chandigarh Police and then SHO of the concerned Police Station and whose real brother Dheeraj Sarna was an official at CLTA. Showing their brazen disrespect for the law & morality, CLTA management supported the accused molesters in their legal defence by hiring an attorney for the accused. Even the bail bonds of the accused were furnished by CLTA Officials. The accused while on bail continue to train and stay at CLTA while the victim continued to suffer psychologically and lost all interest in the sport she loved. Even the new management team consisting of President, Viswajeet Khanna, IAS & ACS to Govt of Punjab, Secretary Sudhir Rajpal, IAS & PS to Govt of Haryana and Treasurer Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, IAS & Special PS to CM Punjab which took charge in Sept 2019, continued to support the accused legally and defend them on age fraud charges.
In Nov 2019, victim’s father got hold of school admission documents of 3 accused which had different date of birth as claimed by them. On his complaint, Haryana Health Department has cancelled Birth Certificate of one accused and also lodged an FIR under section 420, 467, 468, 471 at Hisar on the complaint of the State. Similarly, the process to cancel the Birth Certificate of the other two accused is on with the Haryana Health Department. Chandigarh Police has also verified and submitted these documents in the court in Nov 2019 to get their bails cancelled. Even after getting to know the age fraud, CLTA continues to harbor these accused and they continue to train & stay at CLTA Sports Complex. Chandigarh Administration who has leased Sector 10 Sports Complex to CLTA @Rs 100 per annum for the last three decades has not intervened in this molestation and age fraud case which is going on for one year and has not served any notice to CLTA. Administration has ignored many previous complaints against CLTA for running an illegal CHART Academy in their premises.
Looking at this, all citizens should come forward and raise voice against this gross injustice not just on a girl child but also on all those victim players who have suffered in their sports careers in the hands of these overage fraudsters. Many a dream have been nipped in the bud because sports administrators and sports federations continued to harbor these age fraudsters since long. They have played a big fraud on us all and its time we come together and raise our voice.
