Gao Zhisheng is our human rights hero! A well-known Chinese lawyer who took on pro bono social justice cases, he and his family experienced severe hardship purely because of this work.  Gao was abducted by authorities again in 2017, detained (for a fourth time) and his whereabouts & wellbeing are currently unknown.

Gao's family members haven't been allowed to contact him & have received no updates since 2017. We urge Chinese authorities to confirm whether or not he's still alive, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amnesty Christchurch have sent 453 signatures so far on Gao's behalf since 2021. This petition collects signatures both online & in person (on paper) and we send a new update to the Chinese government at the end of every year. We also copy the local Chinese Consulate in Christchurch/Otautahi & the Chinese Ambassador to NZ, as well as the NZ Ambassador in China, asking them to help us continue highlighting Gao's case to Beijing.
