The Issue
My husband, an innocent man, has been imprisoned for 29 years for a crime he did not commit. Despite undisputed new evidence that could exonerate him, he continues to languish in jail due to an unreliable criminal justice system. This is not just our personal tragedy but a systemic issue affecting countless individuals across the nation. Wrongful convictions are alarmingly prevalent in our country's prisons, with African American and Hispanic males disproportionately affected. The National Registry of Exonerations reports that there are more innocent people behind bars today than ever before. The rate of exonerations continues to rise, revealing deep flaws within our system. The reasons for these wrongful convictions range from lack of accountability for police and prosecutors to reliance on junk science and mistaken eyewitnesses. These issues need urgent attention and reform if we are to ensure justice is served fairly and accurately. We urge lawmakers to enact legislation that addresses these problems at their root cause - by holding law enforcement accountable, scrutinizing forensic methods used in courtrooms, improving eyewitness identification procedures among others. Our loved ones should not have to spend another day behind bars due to systemic failures. It's time we demand change from those who can make it happen - our elected officials. Please sign this petition calling for reform in our criminal justice system against wrongful convictions. Andre Rider was convicted of a crime in which he did not commit, and he has spent 29 years in prison for a wrongful conviction I’m writing to help prove his innocence so please help me by sharing and signing this petition on his behalf. in 1996 Mr. Rider was leaving his then wife because of infidelity. In his case there are no reports from any Phyicians. There are no police reports. No physical evidence to prove the allegations brought against him. Her sole reason for telling such a lie and in her own words that are notarized she admitted to lying. She wrote "If I can't have him no one else will either." There is new undisputed evidence that supports his innocence also in our possession, court documents, notarized statements from the plaintiff, and witness statements. There is also reason to believe that this case involves prosecutorial misconduct, as well as juror misconduct. The public defender assigned to him admitted on a recorded phone call that Mr. Rider was “one of his victims” and by the time attention came to Mr. Rider's case "I'll Be dead" (The public defenders' words.) It also came to Mr. Riders attention that a juror on the panel was the Best Friend of the plaintiff who was instructed not to disclose information that the two knew one another. After he was found guilty the judge ordered that the jurors names be sealed. The plaintiff remarried, and her second husband who was also, manipulated by her shot her, but the injuries were not life-threatening. His story was in the Sacramento Bee newspaper dated September 8, 2016. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, child, endangerment, and domestic violence related charges. During his time in jail. He reached out to Mr. Rider and expressed his concern, remorse for what Mr. Rider was going through, and offered to write letters to help with his innocence. Mr. Daniels spent only four years in jail, and at his jury trial on December 19, 2019, he was acquitted of all charges. Whereas Mr. Rider was sentenced. My husband was sentenced to 75 years of life under the three strikes law. His past was used against him, his priors and enhancements became the basis for his conviction, and now we're fighting for justice. This is not just our fight - it is a fight for all those who have been unjustly incarcerated under this law, often for minor crimes. To date Mr. Rider has written several declarations of innocence and attached the new evidence and other written documentation to support his claims. It has been sent out to multiple agencies which include The Northern California Innocence Project, The Exoneration Project in Chicago, The Attorney General's office in the state of California, The Governor's Office of the state of California, and The Superior court of Sacramento. Just to name a few. I’m starting this petition because this is someone I love and a cause I care about deeply, and it won’t happen without the support of people like you. Starting a petition isn’t something I would normally do, but I was moved to do so because wrongful convictions in our prison systems need to stop. And with wrongful convictions and exonerations at an all-time high in the most recent years. This injustice needs to stop. I know I’m not alone in this fight and together we can make this change happen. Please sign and share!
