That's it. The last swan has now been put to sleep to end its suffering.

An entire family of swans – a protected species – has been wiped out. These swans have been part of the lake for years, and now they're gone.

The council has published some FAQs, but it’s not enough.

We're told the fish can't be moved until the weather cools down, if we wait until then, there may not be any fish left. They're already dying a slow, awful death, trapped in the silt.

The council says investigations are needed to find out how deep the silt is. The volunteers who have been there every day rescuing the dying and retrieving the sick, risking their own health in the process, could tell you it's more than 10 feet deep in places.

Water quality testing is ongoing, but when did it start? When will it finish? What are the early findings? The public deserves to know, not least those that live by the lake. Yesterday, one volunteer had to leave the lake and return later wearing a mask because the smell was so putrid.

If planting is part of the solution, why can't it start now, giving the vegetation time to establish before next summer?

Why hasn’t there been no update or more presence when public feeling is so high?

Yes, there appears to be a plan, but it's too slow. We need action now.

There are 579 of us who have signed this petition. If each of us persuaded just three more people to sign, and they did the same, we'd soon reach 5,000 signatures, giving this campaign the visibility it needs.

We owe it to the fish, ducks, geese and swans we've lost, those still suffering, and the future of our lake.

Thank you for everything you’ve done so far.
