Dear Friends and Colleagues,

With support from all of you, we have touched over 2,000 signatures in less than a week in support of our campaign to remove the statue of Manu from the Rajasthan High Court. (See change.org, click on http://chng.it/Jt7x9N7K

We need more and more people to join this campaign. A simple message on WhatsApp more often than not does not work and requires constant follow up. That's the reason I am writing to you more than once. Can you help mobilize more people?

I would also like to share the news that in a week's time there have been 14,255 missed calls received to support the campaign until this morning. Please remind people to give a missed call on 9823157779.

thank you so much

Dear all,

In the tragic killing of George Floyd, the world has found new ways to engage in uncomfortable conversations around race, gender, and yes, on caste.

There have been several recent articles on the debt that Indian Americans owe to the Civil Rights Movement for paving the road for all immigrants. There have also been thought-provoking essays drawing parallels between anti-black racism and the legacy of caste-based discrimination. Here are excerpts from one such essay from Pulitzer Prize Winner, Isabel Wilkerson, in the New York Times Magazine (see link below).

"Throughout human history, three caste systems have stood out. The lingering, millenniums-long caste system of India. The tragically accelerated, chilling and officially vanquished caste system of Nazi Germany. And the shape-shifting, unspoken, race-based caste pyramid in the United States."

"Each version relied on stigmatizing those deemed inferior to justify the dehumanization necessary to keep the lowest-ranked people at the bottom and to rationalize the protocols of enforcement. A caste system endures because it is often justified as divine will, originating from sacred text or the presumed laws of nature, reinforced throughout the culture and passed down through the generations."

The fight against entrenched bigotry is today everyone’s fight. In recognition of this, we are now addressing our Manu petition “To anyone who opposes India’s Caste System.”

Please help us reach out to more people across the world and make this a truly international call to remove the most visible symbol of India’s caste history.

If each signatory sends out the link and invitation to ten friends and family , we can rapidly get to 10,000 signatures in just a few days. (http://chng.it/Jt7x9N7K
