I’m asking for your support in a petition to twin the remaining undivided sections of Highway 7 between Fredericton and Saint John. This highway has seen far too many preventable tragedies — including one that changed my family forever.

On April 13, 2026, my brother Jeffrey Caterini was driving home from work when another vehicle crossed into his lane near Highway Marker  76. The head‑on collision took Jeffrey’s life.  

Jeffrey was a husband, a father of two young sons, a brother, a son, and a hardworking New Brunswicker who deserved to get home safely. His death was not an unavoidable accident — it was the result of an undivided highway that should have been twinned years ago.

Highway 7 has a long history of fatal collisions on the untwinned sections:

• 2024 – Fatal collision near Petersville

• 2023 – Head‑on fatal crash near Welsford

• 2022 – Fatal crash near Oromocto

• 2021 – Fatal collision near Geary

• 2019 – Head‑on fatal collision near Petersville Hill

• 2018 – Multi‑vehicle fatal collision near Welsford

These are not isolated incidents. They are a pattern — and they are preventable.

Twinning saves lives.

It eliminates head‑on collisions, reduces run‑off‑road fatalities, and makes passing safer. Every twinned highway in New Brunswick shows dramatic reductions in deadly crashes.
