Jessica Taylor's life changed drastically at the age of 14 when a severe accident while skateboarding resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Before the accident, she was a vibrant and accomplished teenager—a first chair trumpet player with dreams of attending Baylor University and becoming a forensic scientist. However, the unforeseen incident left her completely dependent on skilled care, with doctors predicting a grim future. Despite these challenges, Jessica has exceeded expectations, surviving six years with the constant support of around-the-clock skilled nursing care, remaining happy and healthy at home surrounded by her mother, nurses, and beloved animals.
Jessica's condition is undeniably complex and life-threatening. She requires continuous 24-hour skilled nursing care due to her total care dependency from the TBI and a tracheostomy that results in frequent, severe mucus plugging. Without this specialized and attentive care, Jessica is at serious risk of life-threatening infections and other complications.
We are calling for the continued authorization of this essential care for Jessica, ensuring her well-being and respecting her wish to remain in the nurturing environment of her home. Jessica's home is not just where she lives; it is a sanctuary where she has thrived beyond medical expectations.
This petition seeks to highlight the critical need for maintaining her current level of care that has been pivotal to her survival and quality of life. The decision to continue funding her skilled nursing is not merely a financial consideration but a crucial lifeline that allows Jessica to live with dignity, comfort, and joy.
By signing this petition, you are supporting Jessica's right to continue living in a safe and caring home environment with the skilled medical attention she needs. Let us ensure that Jessica can live her life as fully and safely as possible, surrounded by the familiarity of her mother's embrace and the companionship of her animals. Please sign this petition to keep Jessica's home care intact and help secure her future.
Jessica is on my health insurance as primary. Unfortunately my insurance does not have 24 hour nursing care. I work full time. I have Medicaid as secondary and it basically covers 24 hour nursing.
By me working, in 2020, my insurance paid 2.2 million dollars..so far what I have added up since Jessica accident my insurance paid about 4.5 million dollars on Jessica medical.
How can be over cost ceiling for Medicaid?. Medicaid isn’t paying everything!
I am saving tax payers money. If I didn’t provide my health insurance then Medicaid would paid more than what they are paying now!!
