The legendary video game voice actor Charles Martinet has parted from the role of Mario and the other Italian Plumbers after voicing them as far back as the 1990s, which includes the not so major stuff from after 1992 before the major start in Super Mario 64 in 1996. This goes against how Charles Martinet said that he intended to voice his characters until dropping dead, whether or not it was his decision to go against his word is still to be determined, considering how it's starting to look like the Mario Franchise has been slowly doing away with Seattle based voice actors to the point of other voice actors also leaving their roles, and now Charles Martinet has the role of something called Mario Ambassador.

This all comes the same year as backlash about Charles Martinet not voicing Mario and Luigi in a Mario Movie by Illumination, which had them unlike the games speaking full sentences and not having their trademark Italian Accents instead of using archived audio. Come a time like this I praised that whoever takes over as Mario would also do so as the other Italian Plumbers and their baby counterparts, luckily this did end up being the case when Kevin Afghani took on the role starting with  Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It.

Overall I certainly hope that these games won't be the only times Kevin Afghani voices them in a Switch game, since the re-releases that are coming to the Switch next year are confirmed to still have Charles Martinet's voice clips for his characters, and the only game confirmed for next year so far that's not a re-release is Princess Peach: Showtime, of which Mario and Luigi likely aren't even a part of. So it is important that sometime next year has atleast one other Mario game for the Switch that's not a re-release, and that Waluigi is in it as a way for Kevin Afghani to have his first shot as him before the release of Nintendo's next system.
