Our children deserve to feel safe every day at school. Cameras and locked doors help, but they cannot stop or respond to real threats. If we protect banks, airports, and courthouses with armed security, why not our children?

Why This Matters:

Parents across New York, and within Islip community, are deeply concerned about the safety of students and teachers. Unfortunately, schools have become increasingly vulnerable, and current measures are not enough.

Other districts, including Commack, have already taken the step of placing trained, armed guards in schools. Law enforcement groups such as the New York State Sheriffs’ Association also support having at least one armed School Resource Officer in every school.

We believe every Islip school and schools throughout NYS should have the same level of protection. This is not about politics — it is about protecting our kids, teachers, and staff.

What We’re Asking:

Our Local School Boards and Superintendents to support the placement of trained, armed security in every school.
Our State Assembly Members and Senators to fund and pass legislation — including the School Security Guard Training Enhancement Act (S4559C) — that ensures the highest standards of training and accountability.
Governor Kathy Hochul to make school security funding a priority in the state budget.
