Thanks for signing the Pitney online petition! As of this Friday morning (day 2), we have 33 signatures with only limited publicity about it, and I am hoping that the Observer-Tribune will publish the link next week so everyone in the Mendhams can know of it. Meanwhile, good if you make friends and neighbors aware of it so they can sign if they agree, every little bit helps. I think we would need something over 100 to have the desired impact, which should be quite feasible if the newspaper publishes it.
There are also some other interesting initiatives being pursued by a few others, and some good letters appearing in recent Observer-Tribunes. Hopefully, the sum of it all will have an effect. I think the sentiment is widespread but unless commensurate action is taken, everyone taking just a few minutes, the Township Committee will feel empowered to do what they want.
I'm sure the Township Committee has an issue to solve, and they think selling part or all of Pitney is a good solution, we just need to make them understand it's the wrong thing to do for the town if not the area, and really not a proper or long-term solution, culturally or financially, they need to use better values and employ long-term thinking.
I will send out updates so you know what's going on, but infrequently (maybe one per week going forward) so it doesn't become a pain. We all get enough emails…
Thanks again,
