The Issue

I am a resident of the Neo Vertika Condo in the vibrant Brickell community, and it's disheartening to see how our money is being employed in ways that clash with our values. Recently,  we have become aware that Neo Vertika's administration has been using funds to carry out inhumane methods for controlling our pigeon and dove populations. This practice not only disregards ethical treatment of animals, but also seems ineffective, leaving us with continuous bird-related issues.

The sight of birds being killed on top of our building is deeply upsetting and has sparked concern among many in our local community. We're known for being progressive, environmentally conscious, and compassionate. The method currently being employed tarnishes our community's reputation and misrepresents what we stand for in Miami's heart.

The killing of these birds isn’t just inhumane—it's bad management and a massive liability. Animal welfare organizations have repeatedly emphasized that lethal bird control is not a sustainable solution. According to experts, humane and effective methods such as exclusion techniques, habitat modification, and other non-lethal strategies not only align with ethical standards but are proven to deliver better long-term results.

Pigeons and doves have been a part of our ecosystem for centuries, and coexisting with them can be accomplished without resorting to cruel practices. Our building should adopt proven humane strategies that prioritize welfare for all creatures. Successful examples of non-lethal bird management can be seen worldwide. For instance, San Francisco and Vancouver have pioneered methods that allow for peaceful coexistence with urban wildlife.

I urge my fellow Brickellites to join this call for change. By demanding humane practices from Neo Vertika's administration, we not only protect vulnerable creatures but also uphold the standards and values we cherish in our Brickell community. Please sign this petition to show our leadership that we prioritize compassion over cruelty and insist on adopting humane bird control methods now.
