PIER-LY ABSURD: Petition to refuse forced furniture from Core Spaces LLC.

Das Problem

To all the members of The Pier community, your furniture is at risk. All units on the property will be receiving furniture next year. Whether you are a return renter or brand new, your home will have their furniture delivered and set up in your space.

What does this mean?

  1. You store their furniture, assembled or in boxes, in your rental space.
  2. If you live in a tiny house, chances are there is no room to store their furniture. Instead, you have been informed that you must pay for outside storage and return the furniture upon moving out.
  3. There are several reports of maintenance entering homes and moving personal furniture to make space for theirs while the renter is not home.

Nowhere in the current lease agreement is there a section stating that furniture will be delivered; there is no checklist available to see what we will be receiving. There has not been a formal notification to current residents.

It is unethical and unrealistic to expect students to pay high rent and a separate storage fee for their property. Who would be responsible if that furniture was stolen or destroyed in storage?

This is an urgent matter for the Clemson Community to see and question. Our landlords need to hear our opinions about their decisions that impact our livelihood and wellbeing.

By signing this petition against their decision to force furniture on us, you are voicing that you do not want their property and should not be held liable for storing it.
