This petition was made to protest phone policies at Franklin Towne Charter High School. Keeping phones in lockers is no longer the safest option considering the rising issue of school shootings, and in light of recent events, this is more important than ever. This policy change—at the bare minimum—would let students keep phones in their bags for emergencies. This policy change would also eliminate the excessive punishment of a student having their phone on their person, which is a two hour afterschool detention. Phones would be placed in student’s bags before class, and turned on silent. If a teacher so chooses, they can have students place phones in the front of the room in pouches or in a bin. It is also the teacher’s choice if students are allowed to look at their phones after their school work has been completed (this, however, is not a necessity). The students and parents of Franklin Towne hope that this is taken into consideration, thank you very much.
