On February 18th, 2016 the NYC Parks Department announced that surfing would no longer be allowed between Beach 60th - Beach 67th during the summer season. Effective June 1st, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., surfing will be confined only to the area between Beach 67th and Beach 69th.

Other surfing areas will not expand and remain at Beach 90th and between Beach 110 and Beach 111th.
